A Californian family was allegedly hit by a drunk man who has been deported 15 times before. One of the family members, a boy, was severely hit in the head.
6-year-old Lennox was in the car with his mother and his father. The family was coming back from Disneyland on Saturday when the accident happened.
His parents got him a milkshake from In-N-Out Burger in San Ysidro and then continued on their away. However, one block away from their house, another car hit their car causing Lennox head injuries.
Sitting in the back seat, Lennox s’s uncle described the accident and said that a truck “came flying around the corner, wheels squealing and slammed into them. They went through a guardrail and stopped facing the opposite direction.”
Border Patrol came to the crash scene around 11:30 pm. The accident took place at the intersection of Camino De La Plaza and Dairy Mart Street. When they saw many victims, US Border Patrol agents called local authorities.
After the investigation, San Diego police arrested the driver who has been identified as Constantino Banda-Acostawas, a Mexican man who was driving Chevrolet pickup truck.
The police allegedly said that the driver was driving under the influence. In addition, An Immigration and Customs Enforcement official stated that Acostawas was deported around 15 times over the past 15 years.
“But those are just numbers to a man who only wants to see his son healthy again. It’s tough to know somewhere that the system is breaking down but I’m really just trying to focus on Lennox coming home and making him happy. [I hope] justice does their job and things work out the right way,” Ben Lake said.
Lennox’s uncle said that the 6-year-old kid suffered major injuries and went into surgery while his parents suffered minor injuries.
“Right now, he has a lot of swelling and can’t open either of his eyes so he’s scared about why he can’t see.” Lake remarked. “I just really care about bringing him home and making sure he’s happy again.”
