Chelsea has reached a deal with Arsenal that will see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave the latter club for 35 million pounds before the close of the transfer window on Thursday.
Chamberlain has been given the permission to speak to Chelsea over a five-year contract as the only thing left to discuss are his wages and other personal terms with the current Premier League Champions.
The winger will have a medical at Chelsea’s St George’s park before the completing the move that will make him the fifth high profile signing for the club this summer after the likes of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko were brought in earlier this season.
Chelsea To Strengthen English Core
Chamberlain signing is in line with Chelsea’s move to strengthen their English core as the club were lacking in their “homegrown” players quota.
Alex Chamberlain was offered a new contract by Arsenal but turned it down which put the club in a difficult situation as they had no choice but to let him leave instead of losing him for free next season since he only had one year on his contract.
Chamberlain might just be the first of many big names that are expected to sign for Chelsea before the close of the transfer window.
This is is the first time in 11 years that a player from Arsenal will be joining Chelsea after Ashley Cole made the move that shocked Arsenal fans.
