Roger Federer was at his clinical best as he blew off Feliciano Lopez of Spain in full straight sets to make it the fourth round of the US Open.

Roger Federer who is currently ranked in the third spot beat Lopez, 35, 6-3 6-3 7-5.

Roger Federer will now face Phillip Kohlschreiber in the US Open last 16 round.

“I feel happy after the first two five-setters,” Federer said after the game.

“It was great to get to two sets for a change and it feels great to be in this position.”

Nadal Also Advances

Rafael Nadal defeated Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-1 6-4 to advance to the fourth round.

The game on between Federer and Lopez was the Us Open’s oldest match-up ever since Jimmy Connors, 40, against Ivan Lendl, 32, in 1992.

Federer was sharp all through the game and did not show any sign of a back pain that affected his training before the tournament.

“I had to get over the back issue that I had in the first match and although I had some issue in the second round, I think was able to hold my own.”

“I now trust my game better now and the service is still there as always. My game is still the way it should be so I have to focus and forget about the past.

Roger Federer is still the favorite to win the US Open this year in spite of their presence Of Rafael Nadal.
