Real Madrid striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has been awarded the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for the second year in a row.

Ronaldo was pitched against Barcelona Lionel Messi and Buffon of Juventus but was always the favourite to win the award after a great season with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo was one of Real Madrid’s best players last season as his 25 goals helped the team win their first La Liga title in 5 years. He also found the back of the net 12 times in 14 games as Real Madrid became the first side to retain the UEFA Champions League title.

It was always going to be a straight battle between Messi and Ronaldo who have both dominated world football in the last 6 years and I have shared the top honours in football amongst themselves.

Double Award For Ronaldo

Buffon didn’t leave empty handed as he was given the award for the best goalkeeper of the season, the best defender went to Sergio Ramos, and his teammate Luka Modric was named the best midfielder. Ronaldo took home yet another award as he was named the best forward by UEFA (he beat Messi and Dybala to this award).

In the women’s category, Lieke Martens of Barcelona won the award for Player of the year ahead of Wolfsburg’s Pernille Harder and Lyon’s Dzsenifer Marozsán.
