A shooting on North Forsyth Road nearby Hanging Moss Road near Orlando caused “multiple fatalities”. Five people were dead including the shooter.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that the situation was contained by 9 a.m.
“OCSO working shooting scene that has stabilized. Multiple fatalities. Situation contained. Sheriff will brief as soon as info is accurate,” the Sheriff’s Office declared on twitter.
Sheriff Jerry Demings met with other area leaders at 11a.m. for a news briefing.
Around 25 police cars and 70 officers responded to the incident. Officials then evacuated the area and urged residents to avoid coming nearby. Authorities have K-9 units at the place of the incident as a precaution.
Investigators identified the shooter and interviewed several witnesses right after the incident.
Shelley Adams’s sister works at Fiamma, a business that produces awnings for campers. Her sister was in the restroom when she heard gunshots.
“She came out and saw a man on the floor,” she stated.
Adams assures that her sister was fine. She said that “God had his hand on her.”
The Orange County Fire and Rescue Training and Command Simulation Academy was nearby the incident, about a half-mile away.
Adams was shocked and kept wondering why anybody would shoot the business.
“How do you take people’s lives?” Adams said. “That’s shocking.”
“Over the past year, the Orlando community has been challenged like never before. I have been briefed by our law enforcement officials on this tragic incident and Ann and I are praying for the families who lost loved ones today,” Gov. Rick Scott stated. “I ask all Floridians to pray for the families impacted by this senseless act of violence. I will remain in contact with the Orlando law enforcement community throughout the day as more information is made available.”
