Speaking at his New Year’s Eve bash, President-Elect, Donald Trump expressed doubts about the security of computers. He said, “You know, if you have something really important, write it out and have it delivered by courier, the old-fashioned way. Because I’ll tell you what: No computer is safe.”
It is well known that the incoming president rarely uses email but does use Twitter all the time.
He has rejected the idea that Russia hacked the Democratic Party servers to gain access to embarrassing emails that were passed to Wikileaks. This week saw President Barack Obama expel diplomats and close complexes after the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI published a report detailing how Russia had hacked the political party. Russia has repeatedly denied the allegations.
Trump has scheduled meetings with U.S intelligence officials to learn more about the allegations and to ensure that they are convinced it was Russia. He pointed to the catastrophic intelligence failures of the past such as Iraq, which concluded there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when none existed.
“I know a lot about hacking. And hacking is a very hard thing to prove, so it could be somebody else,” he said.
Donald Trump was speaking at his Mar-a-Lago club, where he had thrown a New Year’s Eve party. Celebrities such as Sylvester Stallone were in attendance.
Earlier in the day Trump had tweeted, “Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!”
Trump had made an unplanned visit to the Jupiter golf club. Transition aid, Stephanie Grisham, confirmed the trip was not part of the official schedule. In a statement she said, “We are in the home stretch of this transition period and don’t anticipate any additional situations like this between now and inauguration.”
Trump takes office in a few weeks time.
