Venus Williams had advanced to the 23rd Grand Slam semi-final of her career after her victory over Petra Kvitova. Venus, 37, won the game 6-3 3-6 7-6 in a packed arena in New York.

“I am very lucky to win this game,” Venus said after the game. “It came down to the last set and I hope we more match ups like that.” Venus is set to face Sloan Stephens in the Semifinals of the US Open.

Both Coco Vandeweghe and Madison Keys will be looking to join their UD counterparts when they meet up on Wednesday.

All American Semis

“I would love if the top four are all Americans once again. That would be great” Williams added.

Kvitova is missing out on her first US Open Semi final after spending nine months on the sidelines following a knife attack that left her playing hand seriously injured.

“What she has experienced is quite unbelievable,” Williams said. “It is great to her back on the court and playing. I am happy to see that she is also playing well in spite of the surgery. She is an inspiration to everyone and we all have to respect.

Venus and Kvitova have met 5 times in the past and the games needed the whole three set and in two of that occasion, they had to go through a tie break.
