Former boyband singer Oritsé Williams has been arrested on suspicion of raping a fan. The singer, who shot to fame on the X Factor when his band JLS came runner up to Alexandra Burke on the British X Factor show, stands accused of raping a 20-year-old he met while gigging at the Gorgeous nightclub in Wolverhampton.
The woman, who is understood to be a waitress, is understood to have told officers than she had gone back to Williams’ hotel along with a friend. According to a source both the young woman and her riend were huge fans of JLS and had agreed to go back for a drink with Williams and another man.
The girls spent some time with the men at the hotel before heading home. However, the alleged victim then noticed that she had left her handbag behind, with her purse in. With no money for a taxi home, she was back up to the room.
The woman alleges it was that that she was raped. Officers were asked to attend the hotel and Williams was placed under arrest in connection with the incident which is understood to have taken place on December 2.
Police are continuing to investigate the alleged assault, including looking through CCTV footage taken from the nightclub. It is not yet clear if there is also CCTV anywhere in the hotel.
No charges have been brought, although a spokesperson for West Midlands Police have confirmed that an arrest has been made and allegations of rape are being investigated after they were called to the hotel at 7.45am. They said that a 30-year-old man had been placed under arrest on suspicion of rape and a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
Williams and the other man have been bailed until February. While JLS have split, Williams has recently released a solo albume called Waterline.
